Abstract

The article is dedicated to examining the structural and semantic characteristics of names of individuals in the specialized vocabulary of the legal field. The materials for the analysis are nouns and nominative word combinations with the meaning of a purposefully acting subject, equated to a person, extracted through the method of continuous sampling from modern English-language legal dictionaries. The article discusses the primary methods of term and professionalism nomination related to individuals: morphological, syntactic, morphologicalsyntactic, and lexico-semantic. The most common structural models of multicomponent terms are revealed. An attempt to semantically classify this stratum of specialized vocabulary is presented in the form of a lexico-semantic series. The presented material allows us to conclude that names of individuals hold a unique position in the English legal sublanguage. They possess explicit derivative characteristics and exhibit structural and semantic diversity. The study aims to enhance current understanding of the methods of term-formation and word-building in languages for specific purposes. In addition, the materials and results of the study can be useful for further studying legal terminology and systematizing its lexicographic description.
