Abstract
Since the end of the 20th century, the popularity of lean manufacturing technology has been growing. However, the terminology of this industry is still poorly understood. For this reason, the object of research in this paper is lean terminology (lean manufacturing terminology) of the English language, since it is the language of international communication. The subject of the study is Japanese borrowings (Japanisms) in English-language lean terminology. The purpose of the work is to identify the structural and semantic features of Japanisms in lean terminology. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were formulated: to study existing dictionaries and glossaries on lean terminology, to select Japanese terms in lean terminology using a continuous sampling method, to conduct a semantic analysis of Japanese terms, to determine the features of the structure of terms borrowed into English from Japanese. The study showed that a feature of lean terminology is the abundance of doublet terms; the phenomena of terminological synonymy, homonymy and polysemy are typical. From the point of view of structure, lean terminology is dominated by terms-words and terminological phrases of a combined type. The results of the study expand knowledge about the English-language terminology of lean manufacturing and can be used in theoretical research, as well as in the practical activities of translators and teachers of a foreign language.
