Abstract

The study analyzes the concept of "depravity" in English literature of the late 19th and 20th centuries, revealing changes in its meaning and associative components, reflecting the transformation of moral values from religious to secular. The structure of the concept is described, including the nuclear, perinuclear and peripheral zones, each of which is substantively characterized by a certain set of semantic features and concretizers, determined by extralinguistic and linguistic factors of the historical periods under consideration (the second half of the 19th and 20th centuries).
